What's in a name?

The other day Joey and I were looking at baby names and their meanings on this website. I don't know who came up with some of these names but we had a pretty good laugh about it. Here are a few:

Name: Phyre
Definition: Fire
Origin: American
My thoughts: What on earth!!!?? If you want to name a kid fire, name her FIRE. What is with "Phyre" when it has no other meaning than that hot burning flame?

Name: Independence
Definition: Freedom
Origin: American
My thoughts: Ok, independence does not mean freedom. Independence means independence. They are not synonyms. What is up with the definition? Don't they use a dictionary on this website?

Name: Floyce
Definition: Joyce and Floyd
Origin: American
My thoughts: Laughing hysterically. Is this for real? Don't need to say anything, just keep laughing.

I love the post. My friend's sister is a nurse at UC Irvine and posted this on her blog:
My favorite hospital story of the year is: There was a patient named La-ah. Everyone was making bets on how to pronounce it. Most decided it was lauh or laay but nay nay. Mother informed the doctors that you "pronounce the dash", it is pronounced ladashah. I laughed so hard i was crying. Who would do that. Oh yes, a fifteen year old having a baby that is who.

I trust you guys to make a great name choice, whatever it is!

People come up with the strangest names. I know that Cameron is thinking of naming his baby Jude from the Beatles song "Hey Jude". I have a cousin that named their children Autumn, Canyon, North, Rivers, and I can't remember the other girls name. People name their kids the weirdest names.

A few years ago we went to Disneyland. Derek was about 6 weeks old, so he and I spent a lot of time in the nursing room while Matt and Zack enjoyed the rides. I would always chat with the other moms in there. One time there was a cute new mom and her baby. I asked the baby's name and heard what sounded like Espin. (I thought maybe short for Espinoza?) I asked how they spelled that and heard: ESPN. As in the TV station.

When Robyn' nephew named their daughter Autumn 16 years ago I thought it was pretty then they named their son Canyon, and I thought that was weird and now that is a popular name, then they named one North then Rivers and the last one was Azure,so I think they had a theme going.and yes Cameron and Jess are naming their little boy Jude Cameron, and I say yuck to Jude but he is their baby. and I thought I was a big Beatles fan!!! not as big as him.
